Thermal Laboratory Services

In 2016, MyHeatSinks joined forces with LongWin Science and Technology Corporation and created a world-class thermal laboratory in Livermore, California, to provide testing services to research institutes and corporations in the semiconductor, telecommunication, electronics, automotive, lighting, and defense industries. The laboratory is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art thermal research instruments, including an AMCA 210 wind tunnel, a natural convection simulation chamber, a thermal interface material (TIM) tester, a forced-convection evaluation platform, and other advanced tools. Since its debut in January 2017, many world-renowned companies have used our laboratory and services to research and test new products.

We offer two types of services: (1) Testing by MHS engineers and (2) Testing by yourself. If you choose “testing by MHS engineers,” please use the form at the bottom of this page to describe your projects. We will evaluate and let you know the cost and lead time. Upon your approval of the cost and receipt of testing samples, our experienced thermal and mechanical engineers will perform the testing and send you the results in digital formats. A Non-Disclosure Agreement is available upon request. If you choose “testing by yourself,” you can book any of our equipment for a full-day or half-day use and come to our lab. Our equipment is well maintained and calibrated by highly-trained engineers who can assist during your testing.

In addition to fee-based services, we also provide collaboration opportunities to educational institutes. Students and researchers from U.S. or Canadian universities can use our laboratory for free or at minimum costs. Please contact our team for more information.

Wind Tunnel Testing (P-Q Curve, System Impedance)

LW-9185-1500 wind tunnel is a tool for fan performance rating. This machine is applicable to resistance and thermal tests of systems, modules, and components. Providing high-efficiency and user-friendly interface to help engineers develop and research better designs, manufactures, and QC quality.

Thermal Interface Material (TIM) Testing

In our thermal laboratory, we can help customers characterize the thermal impedance and thermal conductivity values based on ASTM D5470 standard under specified test conditions. We can provide a side-by-side comparison of several TIMs under the exact same test conditions.

Heat Pipe Testing

To evaluate the performance of heat pipes, we have a state-of-the-art heat pipe tester provided by Long Win Science and Technology Corporation. It is equipped with a water-cooler circulating system, heating control system, attitude adjustment device, measurement system, data acquisition, and test analysis. With the attitude adjustment device, heat pipes can be tested at different angles and directions to evaluate the performance of heat pipes given different testing conditions.

In-Plane Thermal Diffusivity and Resistance Test

LW-9614 In-Plane Thermal Diffusivity and Thermal Conductivity Measurement Apparatus is based on the Angstrom Method. This can be applied to isotropic and anisotropic sheet materials with high thermal conductivity. Our apparatus provides a sinusoidal temperature wave and automatically measures corresponding temperature differences and amplitudes at certain positions of the material. The thermal diffusivity of the material can then be calculated afterward.

Thermal Resistance Testing

LW-9091 CPU Cooler Thermal Resistance Measurement Apparatus & LW-9221 Multi-Axial Press Load Apparatus simulate a working condition for heat sinks. A controllable dummy heating module is behind the specimen as an IC, and an adjustable press load device is above the specimen as a fixture. By measuring the temperature points in the meter bar, the heat flux and the thermal resistance of specimens can be determined.

Natural Convection Test

LW-9022 series generates natural convection conditions with accurate temperature control and good temperature uniformity. This mechanism can provide windless phenomenon to convect air simply by temperature gradients. Thus, be able to simulate authentic environments and know real heat transfer performance, including strict environmental factors.

Forced Convection Test

LW-3122 TTP Thermal Test Platform analyzes the thermal resistance (R) and the relationship between pressure (P) and air flow rate (Q). Users can set up the flow rate and heating power for testing. The purpose of the Thermal Test Platform (TTP) is to provide a duct with flexible dimensions to install a DUT (device under test) for thermal testing. This apparatus includes displays for heat flux modules and a duct for heat sink installation.
